The Kindle is a different technology, it uses a display system called E-Ink and as such it only displays static text and diagrams. The advantage of this is that it only uses power from the battery when the page is changed, a full charge can last up to a month. It can display .pdf files (it's best if they are in columns), I often scan a map to make a .pdf file and then be able to read it from the Kindle. I have not yet tried making a .pdf file out of a photo to see if it can do greyscale.
