I finally finished the amazing volumes of the "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" by Edward Gibbon, It is uncanny how relevant it is today. The area of discussion is the same area of conflict in today's world.

Little has changed. It is still a dog eat dog world.The religions are still contending for power, and the silent majority sits idly by, assuming that it doesn't matter, until it is too late and one religion suddenly has power, then the dogma becomes "I will make a believer out of every one or kill you in the attempt."
