Talking Sue growing gojiberry

Hi I'm Sue and been gardening for about 3 years now. We bought a house with a decent sized garden which hasn't been cultivated for many years. Its very interesting how different parts of the garden give me different results. I enjoy trying out different things so at the moment i am growing some 'walking stick cabbages' which are about 4ft tall in 2 positions but the one i put in the border between ours and the neighbours garden has only managed a foot all summer. I tried jerusalem artichoke only to have them blow over with the first wind. The oddest thing i am trying is gojiberry or lycium barbarum or chinese wolfberry. I put 3 plants in a good raised bed and they promptly started to die off. I dug up the 2 worst and potted them in a multi purpose compost where they are now flourishing. the one i left in the ground had all but died before i looked at it again so i dug that one up and potted it on the same and thats now come back to life. I have had an attempt at pruning but where i make a cut, two branches sprout from the cut and it all looks very untidy now. I have tried to research on t'internet and come up with loads of technical stuff but nothing practical about why i can only grow them in pots, what sort of soil they like and how i prune them. So its very much trial and error with me at the mo. Wikkipedia says they grow wild in the hedgerows here in Suffolk so they cant be that hard to grow can they?
