Default My new allotment

Hi all,

There had been some delays with the old plot holder leaving the site but its all go now

Been my 1st visit as the new "owner" today and it was great

Just did some clearing up and walked around the whole site.

I have an idea how i want the plot to look now so will put it down on paper.

First job is to make a sign for plot 5

Heres some pictures...

Plot 5 from the access road/path

Plot 5 access road which is next to the tap (right)

Plot 5 from the bottom fence

Soil looks pretty good

Big mint bush

Onions

Sprouts

Hoping to get down there again on Wednesday with my plans to start marking out.

Default Update 9-5-09

Started at 9.30 and didnt get in till 8pm!

Managed to get quite allot done..... pics...

Big Blue liquid fertalizer Horse Manure tea

Onions doing really well, even the old boys were impressed... only weeded one row tho

Patatoes again doing really well, ive earthed up as much as i can but have ran out of soil.

Peas have come on well, planted early so was a gamble but looks like its paid off

Climbing french beans (Cobra)

Bush french beans (Tendergreen)

Pumkins (4) to the left and courgettes under fleece. Planted far to many but friends will be pleased

I was given some strawberry runners so went down the allotment shop, bit of black plastic (18pence a meter.... bargin) and away we go

This is the bottom half of my plot, wish i had dug this over in the winter but time didnt allow. Its getting really over grown now i was going to run the mower over it to keep it looking tidy until i can spend some time on it.

Random pic from the top

And to show how it looked when i got it

i spent some time in the back garden just before it got dark, managed to plant lots of salad, spring onions and some rocket.

I've just about had it now so time for some rest as tomorrow i have to do the mowing and turn the compost bins... oh joy

Comments very welcome

Hi Adam, that looks very impressive! A quick question - what are the blue plastic containers that you have propped up against your pea plants and french bean plants for?

Those are what the mushrooms get delivered in to the cafe behind where i live.... they go through about 10 a day!

I put them there to try and put the birds off eating the young seedlings... seems to have worked but not sure if the birds would have eaten them anyway lol... better safer than sorry

They all stack up neatly too so i was going to store my onion in them.

I'm quite jealous, I wish I had an allotment!!

I think when my daughter gets a bit older and I have more time I will get one .

We have a 2 yearold and manage ok

I think as long as you dont get carried away with it... ie weeding every weed, building sheds/grennhouse's you'll have the time.

Things like onions and potatos kinda look after them selfs, beans pretty much the same you just have to water them.

Courgettes are big at our house so we have 6 plants which should be enough, again they will just want watering.

I'm finding a little bit here and there (an hour max) is enough.

Put your name down....
