All of the above reason. Fresh and healthy food just picked from the garden, it can't even be compared with the crap you get, when it's harvested before it's ripe and transported half way around the globe. (Not to mention the problems this behaviour cause to the environment.)
I've enjoyed doing garden work since I was a kid, so it's also a hobby. And it looks nice too, if you do it right. I enjoy watching all the animals that a garden with a lot variety attracts.
I'm 32, so that's 27 years of gardening in some form ;-)

Where do you live and what type of environment do you live in(urban, suburban, rural, etc.)?
|
I live in a suburban environment in Denmark. It's quite peaceful, but there are way to many lawns in my opinion. Talk about monoculture. But of course, it's easy to take care of. But boring. And unnatural.

How long have you been growing fruits, veggies, herbs or flowers?
|
This is my third season. I really have gotten a taste for it. Literally. Umm, carrots... ;-) Main problem has been pests, and finding time to do more gardening.

What is your favorite thing about gardening?
|
It's meaningful work: You are able to feed yourself which give you freedom, you get a lot of fresh air and exercise, and the garden is a great place to relax.
