Default My 1st attempt at a Veg Growing website from the Yorkshire Dales

'Ow do,I have just started my own Online Veg Growing Diary of my efforts from my little patch of heaven in the Yorkshire Dales.

I'm also going to be attempting to beat my Big Onion best weight of 6lb 10oz this year and will be showing my progress of this.

It may appear a little amateurish but I'm a bit late in joining the 21st century.

Anyway please have a look if you can.

Thanks,Dan

Hi,I'm growing the World Record Holding strain Ailsae this year (the same vaiety as my biggest ever) not the best shape but HUGE !!

The nice shaped ones from last year were Mr Fothergills Kelsae seedlings at about £5 for 40.Best shaped ones I've ever grown,if a bit small at 2-3 lb

You just need Good soil, some protection(polytunnel or Greenhouse ideal)quite a bit of space, about 18 inches each way, a bit of tlc, plenty of water in Summer and thats it really.

Oh and a bit of luck.

Anyway keep an eye on my website as I'll be showing every bit of this years big onion attempt.

Cheers,Dan

Dan your onions are fab! What is the flavour like with them being so big? Does the taste get diluted as they grow bigger? Daft question I suppose!

The flavour is only slightly less strong than a normal onion but they are alot jucier so they're good in Salad Butties.

They also make monstrous onion rings about 6 inches wide

Also when I dress them for the shows because they get really well ripened and the tops tied up they do keep remarkably well.

I'm down to my last 3 now but not one has gone rotten or even sprouted 6 months after I gug them up...amazing
