living without waste

I would like to start my first blog by asking your opinion about the amount of waste we create. Do you think its fair for us in the western world to create so much waste and also export it to the third world?
Why can’t we take a lead from people in a small Japanese town and recycle all our waste?
It is because we care so much about our cleanliness and like to buy all foods wrapt in clean packaging and can’t bother using disposable bags.
Or, because we and the society we live in is too lazy and only care about ourselves and not the environment. When it comes to taking action we just forget our own contribution.
As gardeners what do you do to reduce your waste?
Do you support the idea to send things back to the earth?
Please reply

My Toddler Garden

I'm new to the blogging idea. This is my first attempt. And my first blog. I'm calling it "my toddler garden"

Although I have many plans and expectations for my vegetable garden, it is not up and growing yet so I don't feel privileged to even call it a "vegetable garden". Toddler garden sounds fun. I currently have a toddler and the title suits me for the moment.

It is very late summer here, in Michigan (US) and, I have only measured and plotted the land I will be using in the spring. I'm a zone 5 so that means I'll be starting seeds inside. (something I've failed at before, but will never give up trying on) I will "blog" about my ideas and plans throughout the fall and winter. The posts may not be often but who knows, I might surprise myself. I would love any input on the seeding indoor issue!

Cheers!

Rhubarb problem

I am quite new to gardening and I have a problem with my rhubarb which I only planted about 4/5 months ago, it is quite large and some of the stems are splitting and peeling back.
Is this a common problem and if so what can I do about it. I know you are not supposed to remove any stems in the first year but it is really big and I had to as it was taking over the path along side it. Also at the end of the year what do you do to over winter it, do you just leave it?

Thanks

Anyway, my question is: Once you've dug up your spuds & taken said veg off, can you replant the plant, so you get more later?
I'm sure that I read somewhere that you can.

So, dear fellow gardeners, let this 'pea shoot' know please...
