Default Coir Peat

Anybody familar with coir peat? It appears at first look to be a good replacement for the standard peat moss.

Coir Peat is the 'coir fiber pith' or 'coir dust' produced as a bi-product when coconut husks are processed for the extraction of the long fibers from the husk. CoCo Coir Peat is the binding material that comes from the fiber fraction of the coconut husk.
A very Special Grade of coir dust is washed, screened and graded before being processed into various CoCo Coir Peat products for Horticultural and Agricultural applications.

Its a poor substitute for peat. I would suggest its more of a soil conditioner than a compost.

Its not as green as its credentials would suggest either as its shipped from India and Sri Lanka in the main.

Ignoring the distance its shipped its far more environmentally green than peat. At least its a sustainable resource rather than one, the extraction of which, destroys large swathes of the countryside, destroys bio habitat, and reduces retained co2.
An no I'm not a banner waving green activist.
