Default worm bins

Just wondered if anyone has or has had one of these can o worm things. I have made my own but it was a pain to empty and it had to stay on the lottie and really I want it at home. I have just sent in an order and am thinking have I jumped to soon. Be glad to hear from all.

ive been after a wormery for some time, but refuse to pay the sort of money
they want for them, being four bits of plastic!!
if you dont mind paying, the ' can-o-worms' looks like a good one,
but i think ill end up making my own.

Smile Ref; wormery

Hi Les,
I have had 2 small junior wormeries for a couple of years.

They work well, producing some lovely compost and liquid feed.

Try having a look Original Organics Ltd, they show some diffrent sizes, suitable for all needs.
Hope you find this of some use
cheers paul (stupo74)

I have a similar layered one and love it!
We pile in all the peelings, tea bags, etc and the fabulous little wormies transform it into black gold. When it came to using the finished layer, I left it on the top, with the lid off, on a bright sunny day to encourage all the worms to go down into the layers below. Dead easy and no mess.

Overwinter I put a plastic sheet over the whole thing to stop rain getting in between the layers.

Good luck :-)

I have gone for it so wish me luck and thanks to those who replied. I know they are a bit pricey but it looks easier to use than the home made one I had. though it produced some good stuff I had to keep it on lottie two miles away. it was a nightmare to empty aswell. also this one I will be able to keep at home and therefore the veg waste can go straight in even the cooked stuf that was chucked away before as if I kept it it may atract rats.

Well I went for it and invested in a can o worms. What a pain in the beckside. I had liquid of it no problem but the last couple of times including today all I get is a sludge and have to take it all apart to clean it out. My home made one is better though a pain to empty. I have been feeding it and I feel the tap is to low in the sump so does not seperate the liquid from sludge. Am I missing something here? should there be a filter? I am considering using a hanging basket liner or something similar to filter it. Thinking about it I could possibly make a filter around the tap inside. Any one else had similar problems and if so have you overcome them?. thanks to all.

If you can get a hold of Alys Fowler's Thrifty Gardener book, she's got a step by step how to make a wormery.
