Default Can anyone help on putting ash on compost heap.

Hi there

I have a incenerator and burn wood and paper in it. Is that ok for a compost heap cos some people say yes and others say no. I know that coal ash is banned.

What are peoples thoughts.

Thanks

Woodash will be fine, just don`t put too much on at once, also, try and mix it in with the other material.

I've not used it, but I have read that ash (wood, paper and tobacco - although you'd need to puffing away like the Marlboro man to make it worthwhile) can be added in moderation, although coal ash is a no-no!

I tend to use this site if I'm unsure.

Never, ever, EVER put tobacco in any way, shape or form (including the ash ) on the compost heap. It contains nicotine which is highly toxic.
