Default Compost bin...

I need a compost bin for my allotment. I'm considering buying a plastic compost bin (similar to this Garden Composter - Tesco.Direct) because I don't have a great deal of space and this would fit by the side of the shed.

Has anyone used one of these before? Are they any good?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Peony

Actually it is a good price but check first whether your local council has the 'Dalek' compost bins on offer!!

I've called the local borough council. They don't supply compost bins, so I'm going to have to buy one.

Hi Peony, did you ask the council if they sell them at a reduced rate?

Hi Peony, (me again!) I don't know if this is local to you but compost bins are only £14 and buy one, get the second half price. £5 delivery - but that is two bins for only £26. You will use two compost bins on an allotment - honest!

East Sussex County Council

Lesley... you're an absolute angel!! I made the mistake of calling Eastbourne Borough Council and not East Sussex County Council. I thought that as EBC collect the rubbish and are responsible for the parks and gardens that they would supply them or sell them. I didn't think to call ESCC... silly me!

That's such a great price and a really good deal! I'm going to go shopping....!! Yippeeeeeee!! Thanks again!

Hope you don't mind me adding to this post Peony! I am in the same position as Peony was, looking for a composter.

My Council are offering a deal with a company for subsidised composters. But, I have no idea what is good and what isn't. Ideally I wanted to put the composter up in "poo corner"... this is the far end of my garden where my dogs do their poopies. I have two sheds and some spaces (wasted space) either side of the sheds. It's shaded due to large trees, sheds and fencing.

My Council are offering a "Green Cone" for £15.00 http://www.greencone.com/councils/vi...31&pc=RG30+4LA Great price, but needs to be "planted" in soil in direct sun light. There are some others on this page, such as the £19.00 Rotol 220 litre Composter - any recommendations? (not the expensive ones please!)

Just looking at this one on tescos Garden Composter - Tesco.Direct they are offering an additional 20% off now, so its only £16.00 - is this more suitable for "poo corner"?

The composter arrived this morning - I went for the tesco one (see above) as they offered the best deal for me! This ends Recycle week nicely for me I think!

Although we've a dalek type one at home, on the plot we've 4 compost bins made from old pallets, they do a great job, and are easily filled when you start weeding!

I have 2 at the moment and a 3rd going in in the next month or so before Autumn. I built the 1st two out of some Ikea headboards!! They are 3 years old and still going strong!
The 3rd is an old 210Ltr plastic water butt with a hole in it thanks to the ice cracking it. So annoyed I left water in as they are expensive here in Sweden but still I can recycle it.
