The only reason for not composting potato peelings is that they are a potential source of the fungus that causes potato blight. Blight spores can survive only on living plant material. Potato peelings can provide this when the buds in the eyes of potato skins grow into potato plants. To ensure that the peelings don't sprout, bury them well down in the compost and ensure that you turn the heap regularly. If you do this, it is fine to compost the peelings

I've been adding lots to my compost bin - no potatoes though!

I have been told that I need a 2/3rds green to 1/3rd brown. When people say brown does this literally just relate to the colour brown? E.g dead leaves are brown.

the way i got told way half and half green and brown, the green is all your veg leaves etc and the brown is things like shredded paper and cardboard etc (i believe things like egg boxes are good as they create air pockets) ive been wrong before tho and didnt know about potato peeling so i may have to start my compost over as ive even put whole potatos in there which went off

Vegetarian animal waste! Rabbits, Guinea Pigs etc, the straw, woodshavings and poops
Egg boxes and cardboard, newspaper but not glossy mags, twigs etc but they must be chopped or they take yonks to rot down.

Dont put spiney cuttings in
