Hi
I've been composting kitchen and garden waste for about a year and the other day noticed that there are a few slugs and lots of ants in the compost, I was hoping to improve my soil with this compost for next year but a friend said its not good to use for vegetable gardening pls advise Thanks steff |

Hi Steff, welcome to our forum!!
Don't worry about the slugs in your compost bin as they are decomposer organisms and actually help to break down the garden waste so for once they are useful. If you think about the contents of the compost bin - why on earth should they move out to eat your veggie plants? Any eggs should decompose in the heap. Apparently if you keep turning the compost the ants won't like that and they leave for somewhere more peaceful.
