Hi Lesley.... many thanks for the speedy reply... I now understand but the reason I asked the question was because I purchased a kit.. 3 bins and 3 types of potato and I was wondering if I could space them out a bit in planting. There is only my wife and self so I did not want a glut of spuds. I have already planted the first ones (Maris Peer) so I will now get on and plant the rest... maybe tomorrow or Sat.

Thanks again.... Frederick

ps. this is my first ever attempt at growing vegies... on a still night you can hear the bugs or catipilars munching the radish leaves !!!!! dont know what to do about the wild life

Hi Frederick, the potatoes should be ready to harvest in about three months but if you leave them undisturbed in the containers they are growing in then the potatoes will keep until you want to harvest them and you should have fresh home grown potatoes for Christmas dinner.

I also grow potatoes in containers this year. They are moveble and compact. Just a few things that you need to know, for example, don't forget good granage holls in the bottom.
