You can pick lettuce at any stage, try picking some at different sizes and see at which stage of growth you like best.

Did you grow the lettuce indoors or out?

Looked lovely! I've got various lettuce in the garden - mainly feeding the slugs!

So you just cut them and it's growing back? how many times can you do that before the plants are finished?

Yep i just cut or break off leaves as close to the stem as possible and within one to three weeks most varietys can be cut again.

Never counted how many times a plant can be cut from but i would quess as many times as you like untill they begin to show signs of bolting!

Stupid question: Do you cut from the outside of the plant or the inside???

I would cut from the outside - the middle leaves will be new growth while outside will be oldest so that way you're guaranteeing yourself more lettuce soon!

Thanks so much for your reply. I've been trimming the leaves (outside in) and am amazed at how quickly they are re-growing......
I've also got some iceberg lettuce growing. These are not doing as well. How do I get them to bulk up and curl in???
