Default Growing cucumbers - what size pots?

Hi,

My cucumbers are ready to be transferred to their permanent homes...what size pots do I need? I have some 10" pots that are about 6" deep..are these big enough?

The recommended minimum size for containers to grow veg in is 10 inches in diameter and about 12 inches deep. I bought a load from Tesco's last year that weren't expensive (I think they were about £1.30 each).

Hi Sue,

I have just seen on the RHS site a suggestion for pots with a minimum of 45 cm depth and width.

Good luck. Mine are only a couple of inches at the moment no where near yours!

my dads cucumber planters are about knee high. He had them in a smaller pot, but since transfering them a few yrs ago to planter boxes (3 foot x 3 foot x knee high) his cucumbers have been out of control.
Just be sure to have a makeshift roof or wall for them to latch on to.. they are heavy suckers.
This is a pic of my dads cucumbers in the beginning of vegetable season last year. He got a couple hundred cucumbers easily...

Ok thanks, such conflicting advice is what is confusing me!! I am going to try the pots I have, and one bigger pot, and see what happens x

if you have a trellis grid (sorta like this http://www.backyardcity.com/images/L...mall-large.jpg ) behind it that would be perfect. Once they latch on to the trellis, they will grow out of control and you will have lots of tasty cucumbers.

Keep 'em well watered and well fed and they'll be fine!

My cuck is in a 10" but really it is what you have available. Give it a try - despite 'recommended' sizes I got a good crop of peppers with the plants in 3.5" pots - so what have you got to loose?
