Default Asparagus In Containers

Can I grow asparagus plants in containers or do the plants have to be grown in special asparagus beds? Asparagus is something that I enjoy but I don't have a large garden so it must be containers or maybe troughs.

All the info on growing asparagus plants i have read says conatiner growing it is not a good idea, it needs alot of space and three years for harvest from seeds. I have read you would need a whiskey barrel sized container for one plant which will not give alot of return. Maintaining good soil in a container for over three years will surely become a task!!!

My advice would be to only grow asparagus in the ground!
