Default What have you got in your containers?

Thought I'd start off the board with a question.

I have a large pot on the north facing front step with a tomato plant, sweetpeas, nastursums and white lobelia.

What have other people got?

Terry

I only grow tomatoes, cucumbers and a few peppers in containers. They do really well!

I'm very pleased with them

Wow Lesley! That must take some watering! Do you find the cucumbers do well in containers? I have an old metal pail with toms and a cuc but the cucumber seeems less than happy. Not sure if the pail gets too hot in the sun or the cucumber is just sulking!

The toms on the other hand are fine and I should be picking in a couple of weeks.

Terry it did take some watering but with all this rain I haven't had to water at all. This is the first time I have tried cucumbers in a container so I will report back at the end of the season as to whether they were successful or not.

I have courgettes and dwarf beans in containers. Did have spuds but the blight got them.

Strangest container I have is an old tumble drier drum which I half filled with polystyrene then multi purpose compost, then planted with summer flowering bulbs and dahlias. First go at serious flower growing.

I saw a book in a local garden centre yesterday all about growing Veg & Herbs in containers, I'll have to call in and get the Title & post it here for you.

Hi tpeers, I have grown carrots, cabbages, salad, toms, spring onions, radish, lots of herbs, garlic, and I cheat I have a watering system, which you time and sit back and enjoy your garden, while it does the hard work, no humping of watering canS, or getting soaked with the hose pipe. Happy Gardening! RUNNERBEAN

Post containers

Hi everyone

I have toms, chillis and peppers in containers also courgettes, however the cougettes have not done so well in the containers. The ones in the ground have surpassed themselves though.

Amanda.

Bramble I had six fabulous Marketmore cucumber plants in containers which were growing great with flowers on and then we got all that rain. They just drowned. So I am looking forward to the next growing season.

I have carrots and courgette which have been growing well.

I also have cucumbers but these seem to flower, start forming but don't get much further.

Finally I have salad leaves which I have cutting when needed.

Do squashes grow well in containers? I would like to try butternut squash next year but it would have to be in a container as I don't have alot of room. How many butternuts do you get on one plant?

Default Containers

Hi all, I am very pleased to say that after the floods destroyed my plot the veg etc that have been grown in pots have and indeed still are thriving. My carrots in recycle bins have had no probs at all the same with my runner beans which are growing in really shallow cheap trough type planters also my tomatoes. However the thing giving me concern is my xmas potatoes! The plants are huge and growing away by the day have the plant people given me triffid plants by mistake I wonder!
