i was originally growing my pepper plants in trays which became sodden after a neighbour over watered them, i also found out (as im a new gardener) that containers where to shallow therfore the plants were not producing a crop, i have since re located the plants into deeper pots and placed them in the greenhouse, mines a little plastic one as im limited with space, i am now seeing lots of buds, ready to burst with flowers, not sure if this helps much but aslong as they have light and keep the door shut u should be fine

Hi Jean,
Was just wondering how your chilli's are coping now the temps are starting to fall at night?? I have had a couple of the "super hot" chilli plants on the go all season, they have numerous flowers, with little tiny fruits. The naga morich has 2 fruits that are nearly there and plenty to follow by the looks, same with my bhut jolokia. I expect them to continue to fruit for the next few weeks, but i will be monitoring the temps, i would be starting to worry, when the temp at night falls below 10, when less than 5 they will die (with my experiences) What iam trying to say is, keep them going for a while longer, surely it cant hurt??? If you have the option, you could collect what fruit you can, then cut them back, trim the rootball and pot up, take inside and overwinter. Hope this helps in some way??? cheers paul (stupo) |

it's soooo annoying as i have about 400 flowers ready to fruit, but i know there won't be enough time boohoo! I will do what you said & trim them & keep them inside. They still seem to be very healthy in this weather, but the summer has been terrible! Glad your getting some nice fruits the weather is meant to continue good for a little while, so should give them more time ![]() Thanks for your help ![]()

Thanks Jean,
As said, the weather is not looking too bad for the next few days, which will bring your fruits on well. I started my plants off quite early in the season, but as with some types, they can take upto 120 days to fruit, which as you are aware, is basically our season. For next year i am planning on sowing some seeds in a couple of weeks and then again next month and so on, with the hope that i will be able to get a great headstart, by way of overwintering. If my early attempts fail?? i will still have time to start again at the beginning of the year. Do let me know how you get on with (if any) fruit that does make it. Good luck in the weeks to come, cheers paul (stupo) |
