Hey All
I am just new here and thought I would share my new container garden with you all. I live in Australia in a year-round warm climate (well, mostly) and it is now early Spring here. So far I have planted four tomatoes plants (from cuttings), a chilli plant, red lettuce, and the herbs: chives, Italian parsley, and basil. All are going really well thus far. I have planted them all, save for 3 of the tomato plants, in plastic pots (the tomato plants are in a foam box); and used premium potting mix with all of them, which contains a slow-release fertilizer in it as well. I also give them Seasol about every 2-3 weeks. This is my first attempt at growing vegetables and I am really surprised how easy & fun it is! The tomato plants have been in for a few months now and have started baring fruit, although they are all still small and green - I am not even sure what type they are (although I know there are 2 different types). The chilli plant is growing really fast as I have planted it with the fourth tomato plant and the basil (all grow very well together, or so I have read). Even the red lettuce is growing well (although one did die early) even though it is rather warm here and will only get hotter heading into summer. I am hoping I will get at least some lettuce leaves from them before they succumb to the heat. The basil and parsley I have grown from seeds, and I was really surprised by how well and quickly they have sprouted. Especially since I read that parsley is hard to grow and takes a while to start from seeds. Any way, that's my garden thus far. This weekend I am looking at planting a mixed lot of mini-capsicum (bell peppers), baby corn and zucchini as well. So if anyone has any tips and hints I would love to hear them! Thanks!! Russ |
