new to growing - advice ?

Hi im new to all this and havent grown anything before, ive been thinking about staring for a while now - we have a garden but it is very small so containers will be the way forward. Ive just sown a small kitchen herb garden for the window sill to start me off. My OH wants to move onto carrots and maybe chillis next so what is the best advice, varieties and locations for such to grow and when to sow etc /

Dwarf runner beans are smashing in large hanging baskets instead of flowers, and the round carrot Paris market atlas is good in shallow tubs and window boxes, also radishes. If you have the time build yourself two timber A frames and then make 3 boxes of diferent sizes in a tier to fit the A frame. You can then garden up in the air and save garden space. If you make the bottom tier 2ft deep you can grow spuds and it will make the construction nice and sturdy
