Default home made containers

Hi All,
my Wife does most of the veg growing and I get roped in for the heavy duty work.
we had some success planting outdoor cucumbers in pots last year but I feel they would do better in rectangular planters with trellis. If I'm wrong then please feel free to correct me, if I'm right then what should the ideal dimensions be? I am planning on using 6" x 1" timber so for the height then it should be multiples of this. I was thinking along the lines of 3 plants per planter but don't know the spacings, seed packet has long since gone.
Any help will be much appreciated. thanks

You might want to look on here before you splash out on new timber. Free delivery if you spend £30

Thanks PottyPot but you can make them for a LOT less than that. My 8x4x6" deep raised bed cost me about £7.50 in timber.
