Question French Beans

I am thinking of planting some French Beans now, into containers. Keeping them on the patio until the Autumn - or the next Biblical Flood, which ever comes first - then moving them to the green house (unheated).

What do you think - will I get a crop?

Default French Beans

Hi Tpeers. I've never tried growing them like that, only at the conventional times. Two problems spring to mind.
1. trouble with pollination if they're enclosed in the colder weather.
2. Falling light levels at that time of the year. Some plants need the correct light levels.
My gut instinct is that you won't get a crop but I'd love to be wrong Please tell us how you get on

I would also love some fresh french beans for the winter. Will it work do you think? I have a dwarf variety that I can use. How many plants can I grow in a 12 inch pot?

I've just planted some Pongo dwarf beans which can be sown now for havesting in October, I'm hoping that with a mild winter they may carry on a little longer. Will let you know how I get on with them.
