Default :( poor old lettuce

i thought bolting was gunna be where a flower appeared or something and the lettuce then tastes awful...maybe it is??

i harvested my first lettuce the other day as i said, i went out today and his sisters are all wrinkly and wilty, particularly the bottom leaves, theres no much left to eat. It can be lack of water with this rain we had so im guessing this is what bolting looks like. how sad!!

i harvested them both and saved what i could..ahh well lesson learned i hope

Lettuce needs to be grown as fast as possible. It'll be sweet and tender.

This has been our best year so far.

We made a 10" deep box 5ft x 2ft, placed on an old metal oil stand we no longer had a use for. Covered it with polythene stretched over bamboo inside old garden hose. Green bamboo (from the garden) will bend easily inside the hose to form a half circle. Harrod Horticultural do something similar in their catalogue.

Never let your lettuce dry out, it will bolt.
