Default watercress

Bought a packet from a supermarket.

A couple of pieces have tiny roots and I placed them in a water filled jam jar yesterday morning on a sunny window cill. Over night the roots have grown an inch (25mm). I'm going to put them in a container with wet compost.

Never tried this before,so will let you all know how it goes.

Anyone had success or any further ideas.

Hi FTCN, just water the compost every day and make sure it is always wet. Then you can post a photo of your harvest!!

Watercress growing like mad in this showery weather. Roots appear at every leaf joint, so very easy to take further cuttings and propagate.

I'll take a photo when I feel it's impressive enough !

Try it, it's dead easy.

Hi Lesley and all,

Results from ten watercress cuttings planted out on the veg plot

Those grown in containers weren't quite so prolific; the root run with watercress is manic and the open ground seems a better idea, but always keep it wet.

When you see bagged watercress in the supermarkets at a £1 a bag or more; no contest. We have had several harvests over the past two months.

I'll try and over winter with glass covers and chance it survives.

Dead simple ....try it.

Terry
