Default How do I ...?

This may seem a stupid question to the more experienced among us but as this is my first year......

When and how do you harvest courgettes!! Any advice would be wonderful as I have no idea.

Thank you

Andii

Hello,
I don't think your question is stupid! You can't really tell when the courgette is ripe, can you, since it's always going to be green :-)
I try to harvest mine when they are 15-20 cms long (if they're too old they won't taste as good) and I cut them with scissors about 1 cm above the fruit.

Watch them everyday, they change everyday!

(oh, and a note: my first fruits were smaller than 15 cm and stopped growing after they were about 10 cms and started to dry at the flowered end - obviously it's best to avoid that if possible!)

Hope this helps...
Happy harvest

No problem!
Nice idea, the courgette fritters...
Frying the flowers is also said to be good but I've never actually tried it.

Hello All

Just a quick question. How do I know when my onions are ready?! I planted them mid July.

Thank you
