Default My First Potato Harvest!

I'm so pleased. I harvested my first potato bag and I had a respectable yield. I wasn't expecting much because I had been looking at youtube videos where people were only getting a couple of spuds from each bag.

But look at what I got! And they are so pretty and smooth and clean. How should I store them? I have wrapped them in newspaper and put them in the fridge to keep them cool and in the dark. It's quite warm here in Dublin at the moment so I am afraid of leaving them in the shed. If anyone has any other storage ideas, let me know.

We'll cook some for dinner tomorrow and I'll report back on what they tasted like.

By the way they are maris piper second earlies.

I've had a look online and now realise that the fridge is the wrong place for my precious harvest. I have now put them in a dark canvas sack and put them in an under stairs cupboard.

And my yield was 1.662kg for 3 seed potatoes. Hardly record breaking but I am happy.

Dripping in butter, scattered with salt, pepper and fresh parsley, my home grown potatoes were divine!

Note to self, next time I let my OH take a photo of me, I must wear make up!

Hi Paul
Get a water butt. I did because we are on a water meter and its fantastic, especially with all this rain we have been having I don't think I will ever have to use the outside tap again!!

Yeah, I agree a water butt is invaluable - though we don't have water metering here yet.

The weather here is so dull with rain nearly every day so there is no danger of the butt running dry.
