Size tubs...........It is up to the individual really, i have grown carrots in 12 inch pots before today lol.. I mainly use tubs about the size of a bucket but i sow the seed in really thin so they have room to grow , plus it saves time thinning. Just make sure you have plenty of drain holes in the tub .

I'll have to give the sand / compost mix a try - I had limited success last year in a (pretty shallow) raised bed filled with compost and put it down to the depth (about 7in).
I've put my carrots in 20in deep (approx) containers this year but have only used multi-purpose compost, I'll try the sand mix once I've harvested the first tub.

I use standard buckets with holes in the base. You can actually encourage the carrot to grow in different shapes dependant on the soil type and depth of the container. I get around 20 carrots to a bucket

Hello all. Since retiring I have purchased a greenhouse and am now learning ... everything! Read replies to toms and cucumber in pots. Very interesting. May I assume perfectly ok to also grow peppers and courgettes? If so, I would appreciate a few tips from your experiences. Thanks very much

Brian, perfectly Ok to grow peppers and courgettes in containers.
Courgettes need a large container and are fairly heavy feeders; choose a bush variety as some of the others can trail and spread a long way. With all container growing choose suitable varieties - some seed catalogues indicate which are container suitable varieties. |
