Default Cucumber rotting on end

I have noticed one or two of the smaller cucumbers on the plant are slightly rotting at the tip where the flower is/was. Should the actual flower be removed when the cucumber begins to form?

It appears to be where the flower has died back and then spread to tip of cucumber. Don't think it's a disease but may be wrong!

Thanks

Hi there, The flower will drop off on its own as the cucumber grows. Are there many trying to grow at the same time? If this is the case then the plant will sometimes abort some of the smaller cues. Mine are doing this at the moment. Just remove the yellow and soft fruits as you see them. Also try not to overwater. However keep the humidity up. If they are in a greenhouse, and you have a stone path, pour water on the path.I find its a very fine line when getting the conditions right for cucumbers, but good fun

Does the same principles apply for courgettes? Ive got something extremely similar with mine at the moment and yes, there are quite a few all growing at once.

Thanks Bantiekeeper. One of the cucumbers was fairly well established and was the only cucumber on the plant at that time. I have now removed it, chopped off the offending end and left a gap and the rest of it appears ok - tasted ok anyway!

I will remove the smaller ones that have gone bad. Interestingly when googling this last night another page mentioned reducing the humidity, stating that as causing it (along with ensuring a good ventilation, which would mean losing humidity). Another page has also suggested watering the plants with Epsom Salts!

Have heard about Epsom salts but not tried it. Re humidity I try not to get any water on the plants themselves. Not had this problem with courgettes but again keep the water on the ground.
