Smile I don't know what tomato variety I am growing!

Hi there,

this is my first post so be gentle! My issue is this; I was given x5 2 foot-high tomato plants of unknown variety and thus don't know how to best look after them and get the best fruits from them. They're currently in containers of well-drained compost in one of those cheap plastic growhouses. A few trusses have already appeared, flowered and then dropped off without fruiting. I have watered them correctly (I think). What do you think I should do?

thanks for your forthcoming help

Chris

Hi Chris,
If the whole flower is dropping off at what is called the knuckle, then this is known as blossom drop which is caused by dryness at the roots and in the air. Water regularly and spray the flowers in the morning. Also tap the plants to aid pollination.
If the fruitlet starts to develop then stops this is known as dry set. Dry set happens when the air is too hot and dry when pollination is taking place.
Keep the plants well ventilated, even at night if it is hot.
If your plants are cordon variety then you need to remove the side shoots as they grow.
