I'm going to try and grow some potatoes for Christmas this year. We've had a good crop of first and second earlies and have had half the main crop. Which varieties are good for planting now in containers to harvest over Christmas?

First earlies,as they grow quickly, best in containers you can move under cover to protect against blight when rain is expected, and also frost.Eg.maris peer and red duke of york.

I have planted last week and two of them grown to 2 inches.Hey how you planted your potatoes plant?
I used the potato which bought from market and placed in the soil and the roots are always coming out of the soil.

Do you mean the roots or the leaves? Sounds like they need earthing up more.

Well I didn't save any of my seed potatoes in the spring and now can't find any in the shops / garden centres I've been to. I just read that you can wrap the seed potatoes in newspaper and keep in the fridge until now ready for planting In time for a Christmas harvest.
Anyone any suggestions where I might be able to buy some from now. |

traditionally you would have kept some of the first early crop to use, assuming they didn't have any problems. or seed potatoes | eBay and take your pick
