Default Salad Leaves

I fancy these in containers, this year. Anybody tried them and are they better than growing lettuces. ( Little Gem etc)

Default Try oriental salad leaves

Hi there!
I grow oriental salad leaves in containers just as easily as lettuce.
My choices are mustards, mitzuna and rocket. They all make interesting
additions to salads. They not only taste good but they look good as well!
I sow my seeds from July as later sowings seem to do better. The plants
are not as quick to bolt and they have a much healthier appearance.
There are lots of seed companies selling 'mixtures'. you could try one of these and see which ones you like.
kimw.

Hi Cajary, I grew leaves last year, I bought a packet of seeds from Wilkinson, for 79p and sprinkled a few seeds around a container and as they grew I just plucked what I needed as and when and just keeping growing and plucking continously throughout the summer re: instructions on the back and they were lovely, you cannot get fresher than that, and tasted heaps better than what you buy in the shops, lasy year, I noticed in Tesco, they were selling small boxes of salad leaves for a couple of quid, so I think I got good value for mine. That packet of seeds contained Lollo Rosso, Lollo Biondo, Salad Bowl, Red Salad Bowl, Grand Rapids, Cocarde in equal quantities, the other packet cost me 59p and contained Salad bowl Green and Red in equal quantities. Hope this helps Cajary!

Hi, happy, welcome. A few months ago might have been a bit ambitious
I put mine in a couple of weeks ago and they're about 2" high now. They look quite happy. I'll try some more next week to get a longer croping season
