Wink

This is what i've been trying to find out too.

I'm too impatient i think so i want to be able to start.

I got a book from the library called "The Patio Kitchen Garden" by Daphne Ledward. At the back is a planting and sowing timetable. January says:

Plant bare root fruit trees and bushes in containers and as screens and wall plants.

Sow 'windowsill' salad plants indoors.

Plants jerusalem artichokes and bare root rhubarb.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi All

January is generally the time for reading seed catalogues and planning/dreaming about your growing year ahead.

It's a good idea to scrub out any pots you're planning to use and make sure everything's ready for the season. Decide where you're going to grow your seeds, where you're going to put the pots when they're ready to plant out etc etc - make plans in other words.

It's frustrating if it's your first attempt at gardening, but it's also good practice - patience is a gardener's best friend.

I have a rune - it's the 'harvester' and it signifies patience - you don't keep digging things up to see if they're growing you wait until they're ready.

You can always sow a few herbs for indoor use - a pinch of basil will grow any time of year and you'll be able to make some pesto sauce out of it.

Regards

Liz

Well, I bought some "fun" carrots ( about the size of golf-balls) for my g-daughter to grow and it says you can start them in Feb. So I'll give that a try

I bought a herb starter kit from wilkinson for about £1.50 it has compost, seed tray, propagator lid and seeds for coriander, chives, sweet basil and parsley.

I've got some teeny weeny seedlings just started to grow and i only sowed them on friday...

Going to keep in indoors til it warms up and then put them outside.. I feel better now i have finally started!
