Hi everybody, this is my second year of growing veggies and my question is:
Do you still wait to pinch out the top of your tomato plant after 5 trusses if the plant takes til nearly 6ft before this happens? This happened to me when I grew the Tigerella tomato variety! I'd also like to know if I can grow regular onions in tubs and how many to grow in each container, or should I mix them with carrots as I believe the smell of the onion confuses the dreadded carrotfly? Looking forward to any advice, VegGirl |

There are one or two people that show onions that are grown in pots ( well flower buckets) and they regularly win. As to your tomato's if youve room why not plant them at an angle and then they can grow a bit more and still be in reach.

hello, everyone,
i'm tes. i just started doing some gardening and am now focused on growing tomatoes. we only have small space for tomatoes and i dont want them to grow too tall. i heard one way to limit their growth is by cutting off the top leaves after the fourth truss. i don't know exactly what a truss means but from what i've searched, its the stem that holds the bunch of tomatoes. is that right? how high does a tomato gets before it reaches the fourth truss and should i wait until the plant bears fruit before i cut the tops? also, how long does it usually takes before a tomato plant bears fruits? from seeds to the first fruit? taking note of the fact that its cherry tomatoes? thank you tes |
