Most useful garden tools

http://highu.notlong.com/ 21 April 2008 Most useful Garden Tools.

These are pictures of my most useful garden tools. Gardening entails a fair amount of physical labour, and the object is to reduce this labour effort.

Removing sod is a real misery even for a small area. The kick type sod cutter is idea for a small garden.

The little high speed Honda FG110 rototiller is probably the most indispensable. It makes gardening a pleasure. It digs hole, breaks up clumps, mixes soil, turns over the compost pile, irrigates space between plants. Don't leave home without it.

A large strong wheelbarrow is a necessity for any gardening. It is used to move earth and handles dead plants with little effort.

A machette and chopping block dispenses with large stalks that are too large for the chipper/Shredder.

A good sharp hoe is great for removing weeds and hilling plants.

The chipper/shredder effectively breaks up sod, aand vegetation for composting.

The two foot rooting spade is ideal for removing plants with the roots intact.

Rakes are necessary for cleaning up, the brush rake effectively removes earth from grass.

The edge cutter is great for removing a square of sod, for deep edging, and taking a piece out to start a hole for the the kick type sod cutter.

Default Multi-tools

Hi Duggan,
If it's not cheating, I would nominate the Wolf tools I have accumulated over the years. Each hoe, rake, tiller etc is just a tool head which fits any length of handle.
It means I can take all the tools in a bucket and work from the side of a bed, or kneeling down with just two handle lengths.

They are illustrated here Wolf Garden Hand Tools

Marmite,

Are you saying the wife isn't working hard enough, that your neighbours garden looks better when the snow has gone?. Your in trouble!. I picture you lovely wife standing at the door, hands on hips while you remove her welly from your battered behind.

You met her then As for the neighbours, their garden's not bad thay dont do anything at all ,the plants never die, the shrubs are exquisit. My wife works hard what with looking after the garden, our house, washing my car, and cooking. I think one day I might get of the deck chair in the garden and help. . Regards from an everloving husband. Marmite. (Note to people Please dont read to much into my jokey comments I dont own a deck chair).. I think Ploty may have the same sence of humour as me

Hello Marmite,

Met her, no got one! She bought me a lovely bucket and wheelbarrow for Christmas, I now walk up and down the street commenting on other peoples gardens and how well they are doing. My misses says if ever I grow a veggie worth cooking she'd make me a lovely tea.

Hi, my internet connection has been dreadful recently so I haven't been able to reply. If you are looking for a free tiller have you tried Freecycle? It might be worth having a look or posting a wanted ad. You need to find a group in your area, here's a link to one group:-

I have to admit i was really lazy this year, and bought myself a motor hoe last year, and it's possibly the best tool i've ever had in the garden, it saved my back as i've just been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in my spine, so its great as i don't have to work my back to much
