Default brussels problem

My spouts were started off in the GH and when big and strong hardened off and popped into veg patch. Did really well for several weeks, BUT now over the past week or so are flopping over. It started with a couple of smaller ones, and i blamed my boys and have banned anything round and bouncy from my garden! Then the bigger ones started to flop!

So today I dug new homes for the healthy ones added my garden compost and re planted. Thinking maybe there was a problem with the roots, so have inspected the roots of the sickly ones before throwing and nothing . They just look little and weak. No sign of pest or pest damage, had a good check in soil for anything wriggly and nothing!

Any ideas???????????????

Many thanks Sandra

No Sandra - I haven't got any ideas!! Apart from the fact that sprouts need to be planted in really firm ground that had well rooted manure dug in the previous autumn. I know they are young plants but have you tied them to a cane stick? It could be wind rock.

Hi Lesley, many thanks for the reply, i was hoping it might be wind rock, although not particularly windy, for a change here in Holland! But a significant increase compared to the mild delightful weather we had had! I guess with their roots being so immature they are having a nightmare coping with a bit of a breeze. One has picked up today so thats something!
Good job I always sow too many of everything. I have more in the greenhouse and they wont be coming out until they are BIG and strong!
