If you been searching around for allotment insurance but have found the options too expensive you may be interested in this. SWCAA offer Public and Product liability insurance for just £2 per individual per year which covers you for up to 5 million! They also offer employers liability insurance at £10 per year per individual in charge of a group, this offers cover up to £10 million.
I know the world seems to have gone mad but it seems more and more councils are insisting plot holders have their own public liability insurance. Councils only insure boundaries and pathways, most councils do not cover you on your plot so £2 per year for piece of mind doesn't seem bad at all. On our allotment we wanted to have a clearing day but the council wouldn't permit us to do it without the proper insurance cover, we just couldn't afford it. Now we have are own employers liability we can undertake the work and use the machinery we need knowing that if there was to be an accident we would be covered. Help to spread the word more info can be found at http://www.allotmentssouthwest.org.u...page=insurance ![]() |

Hi Peony, there is no need to worry about whether this is 'safe'. The SWCAA works nationwide for allotment holders. £2 for a years insurance - it really is a bargain.

As a newbie I hadn't even thought about insurance until I joined our local allotment association and was told that insurance is included in my yearly membership, in addition to other benefits such as 10% discount at a local garden centre and 10% discount at a local nursery plus a seed share scheme etc. - all this for just £6 a year.
So it might be worth finding out if there is an allotment association near you... |

Hi Lisa, if your society joins the NSALG (National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners) you will be able to get a 22.5% discount on seed orders from Kings Seeds. Just hand around Kings seed catalogue to your members and place a bulk order with Kings.
With the publicity your association has received in the local press it's worth contacting your local garden centre to see if they can offer discounts to your members on gardening equipment and supplies as everyone will be starting from scratch. If you have a Wyvales garden centre I bet they will give you a discount. I would contact the head office. Good luck! Here's a link to the NSALG:- Benefits of joining The NSALG
