Hello everyone
I know this is my first thread as a new member, so may i start my saying hello to everyone.i know i have only just joined but i already have a big question, so please, please take sympathy on a newbee. i have just come back from my allotment and my plastic greenhouse has blown over and fallen over onto one of my plots when i had planted Desiree potatoes. A couple of the plants which were just coming through have been bent and a couple of stems broken. In fact on one of the plants which had actually started growing quite well (about 6 inches with leaves) actually had a few yellow leaves on. I think this is because it had been covered by the greenhouse and pushed back into very damp soil. (as we have had constant rain over the last couple of days). i have removed the greenhouse but im just very worried now about my plants. should i leave them and pray or should i dig up the plants and just get rid of them incase they get diseased due to being broken in parts. As you can tell im a first time allotment holder and im just learning, so im sorry if i should silly. thanks for any advice First time grower |

Hi First Time Grower, don't worry, your potato plants will be just fine and should soon start sending up new growth. The first year on my allotment I planted seed potatoes too early and all the new foliage was burnt by frost but new growth quickly appeared.

Hello,
Thanks goodness I am not alone. I was about to post a similar question. My plastic greenhouse fell on all of my potato bags and broke off most of my potato plants. Now I know that they will soldier on I am much happier. Thanks ![]() |
