Default Compost Question

My new raised beds are finally finished. After one very long weekend of digging and wheelbarrowing new topsoil I am now ready to plant out all veggies that I have been trying to sustain in large pots awaiting the completion of the raised beds.

As I do not have a compost heap (I am working on one for next year) I have to buy compost/manure from my local garden centre. I wondered which is best, I can buy Multi purpose compost or Well rotted farmyard manure. Will either of these do or should I use both or should I use something else altogether?

Need your help.

What, actually, do you intend using the compost/manure for? Assuming you are thinking of adding this to the beds, I would say. if the beds are full with good topsoil that`s all you need for now.

Problem is a lot of top soil contains very little humus, so yes add compost and wrfm.

ps never plant in fresh maure.

Hi Beanybaby... if you want some free stuff 'phone local stables to see if you can help them get rid of some of their horse manure. Either store it for a while in a pile, or put it on dug beds & leave until next year. Generally mixed up with straw, it's magic stuff and if they've got a big pile of it you can generally dig out some that's pretty old & tasty (if you see what I mean!).

Only problem is transport... I put it in compost bags in the back of my Punto & make several trips. Need the fresh air full on otherwise the windows steam up!
