Default Raised bed filling (As TonyB)

Hi everyone,
Pretty new to gardening and I am looking forward very much to growing vegetables with the children. I hope to receive great advice from people on this forum.
I hope this is in the correct section, and I know another member has posted a similar thread, but being new I am not sure about the rules on thread jumping/joining. So here is my thread.
Today me and the girls built a timber raised bed with a size of 1.1m X 2.8m X 350mm. It is based on an area that was lawned. When finished I dug over the lawn inside the bed and turnred over all the soil.
My question is , what is the best way to fill the bed, with what and in what quantities please?
Topsoil, compost, other???

Please bear in mind I am brand new to this forum and to gardening when replying.
Many thanks

I usually use good old fashioned manure, and then I double dig the area adding the manure into the plot. If you have a lot of clay then break it down as much as possible. Clay holds the most nutrient out of all the soil types but it retains a lot of water, which is why it needs breaking down. You could also use mushroom compost too.

Well done on turning over the xisting soil, so many people fail to do this. I would top the bed up with a 50/50 mix of topsoil and sedge peat.
