Maybe take a few more of them little stones out of that's what they are? dig some compost in if you want? but may not need it if you aint grew anything in that spot before. Pretty new to all this myself :P

You've done just fabulous Pacey When are we going to see some updated pics??

Hi Phrygian, as Pacey said you could dig some compost in and sprinkle Growmore around the veggie plants when you plant them.

I agree with Lesley insomuch as getting some veg in now, but I disagree with feeding them before they are established. There should be enough nutrient in the soil for now.

Top dressing with Growmore is something that I have always done when growing veggies in the ground and it's always worked for me! When I grow veggies in containers then I don't use Growmore but feed each week with organic liquid seaweed feed.

Growmore lasts in the ground for between 10 and 14 days, so why use it on plants which aren`t capable of taking up the nutrient? You are much better off using Fish, Blood and Bonemeal.

Oh well David, "each to their own" - I think we will have to agree to disagree!

i think i would get out a few more stones, and create a ditch all around the edges, throwing the excess soil into the center of the bed and re levelling. this would create some drainage and help in keeping the edges clean of weed or grass. i would then dig in some compost in the lines where i was planning to plant. ( to save a bit of money, and not have to cover the hole plot with compost) i would buy some ready started plants to get a head start, and also sow some of my own. once you see something green in there, it all starts to be worthwhile!!!
