Default when are my spuds ready?

Guys and Gals,

As I've written in other posts - I'm a real novice so please bear with me.

First time for growing spuds - they went in late but better than lying in my garage. Now they have grown how do I know when to lift them?. They are in flower - is that okay.

Any advice how to lift them correctly.

Thanks as always

It depends on the variety. If you have early potatoes, I have been told that when they are flowering they are ready. Maincrop varieties probably need at least another month. You can always have a little peak by carefully removing some soil and if they are still small leave them a bit longer.
