what is best cow or horse manure to use as i can get as much as i want to for free of each type

To be quite honest Mugins I would not use either of them. There has been an awful lot of problems with damaged crops in the last couple of years with manure that is contaminated with Aminopyralid or Clopyralid weed killer. Here's a link to a thread about it:-
