Question Advice for a plot newbie please...

Hello, I've only had my plot a few months, 11 weeks to be exact!, After alot of hard work I now have a plot that actually looks like a proper allotment with lots of things planted and even some being havested Loving every minute of having the plot and sometimes think I'm pretty obsessed with it Still have some clearing to do but I'll get it all done eventually

This may be ungenerous of me but I feel the previous tenant of my plot was very wasteful of space, I have for instance in the middle of it an area 17 foot by 6 foot square fenced off with one small compost heap in it, during the winter I'm going to reincorporate this area back into the main plot - it'll keep hubby out of mischief digging it over Also the area for the rhubarb is huge it takes up half the front part of my plot so I also need to move this to a better/out of the main plot location

So after all that info my question is "how do I move the rhubarb, when is the best time to do this and will I get sticks off it next year?" All help, advice welcome and very much appreciated. Many thanks...

Hi Wendle,

Rhubarb can be moved as soon as the leaves die back, dig out the crowns and 'split' them if they are too big, then replant in well manured soil and let them get on with it! If you split the plants, then dont take too much from them for a year or two, let them get established! If you dont split them, then you should be able to crop a bit, but dont take too much!

You can never have too much rhubarb, not only to eat, but makes fab wine too!
