BSAA - lisa is on a distinguished road
Default BSAA - our progress!

We started the BSAA (Baker Street Allotment Association) in July 2010, we were in the local paper see link
FAMILIES in Alvaston could soon be saving hundreds of pounds on their annual shopping bill by growing their own fruit and veg.

we have secured funding for the planning, design and CRB forms from our local neighbourhood forum and a small start up fund from Rolls Royce. We are constituted, bank sorted and are well into meetings.

Please check out our facebook page

We are waiting on Derby Council to sort the planning but hopefully wont be long before we can begin?

Hi Lisa, thanks for the link on Facebook!!

I see you have a bit of a discussion going on about the cost of rent for each plot. I take it that the land is council owned, so will the allotment site be council run? If so then the council will set their own rents and give discounted rents to pensioners and people on benefits. If the allotment site will be council owned but managed by the allotment committee then you will receive a bill from the council each year for the rent of the land. So you need to find out from the councils allotment officer just how much this rent bill will be then you can work out how many plots you will need to fit on the land to cover the rent bill. Our council takes into account the discounted rents for pensioners and people on benefits when the yearly rent bill is issued. This means that plot holders who are not entitled to discounted rents do not have to pay extra to cover the discounted rents. I hope that makes sense!

Hi Lisa, me again!!

Another organisation which should prove very useful to you is the Allotment Regeneration Initiative (ARI). They are able to help with funding and have grants available for specific projects. They also have a team of Mentors that will help and give advice to anyone setting up an allotment site via phone, email or site visits. This help is totally free.

Here's a link to the Mentor section on their site:-
