Our allotment association is about to do battle with the Town Council over a proposed 40% increase in allotment rents. To read more about their proposal and our defence read click the link below.
Can anyone help with ways they've successfully challenge an increase, whether legal or by force of argument? Please post a comment on the link... all help gratefully received. Thanks, John Allotment Heaven: Allotment rent increase |

Hi John Sounds a lot 40% but it depends on how much you are paying now to how big the increase will be. I have just today posted on my own forum at allaboutveg.co.uk how good value my plot is at under £20 a year. I could live with a 40% increase personally as I think I get exceptional value for money.

Hi John, the proposed rent for a large plot is only £35 which works out at roughly 68p per week (if my maths are right!) and 68p per week is an absolute bargain in my opinion. As OurAllotmentPlot has said it's exceptional value for money.

We have to go through a land agent, as the site is owned by a charity. So we have a comity to run it. The rent this year is set at £35 full plot £30 three quarters £25 half £20 one quarter or less . The amount includes Water, membership of the national society of allotment gardeners and third party public liability insurance. We have a reduction of £5 for pensioners.
A full plot is eighth of an acre. The rent will be reviewed in two years. |
