Hi Everyone
I live in Suffolk and the weather here is warmer than where I used to live (North East England). Today in the NE it was 5c and here it was 12.5c So my question is when should seeds be propagated. Seed packets dont give differing instructions dependant where you are in the UK so I'm thinking when to sow? Regards Paul |

Hi
This depends on where they are going to be kept during germination and until the last frosts. If you try and germinate Tomatoe seeds when the soil is not warm enough they just wont take and could rot in the damp soil. I try to start my seeds as earl as I can to get the earliest crops but beware any frosts that occur will kill any plants if they are out side. Also a cold wind on them can also stunt them. Hope that helps and good luck. |

Hi Merky,
Here in Hertfordshire we sow end of first week March for most things but leave runner beans until April. This hopefully avoids frost and the plants are not too leggy when planted out. Another point to remember is that nothing will grow properly until the ground is at the right temperature. ![]() |
