Allotment Costs

If you don't mind me asking, what sort of costs do allotments run at to rent and over what time period?

I'm thinking of eventually getting an allotment once I've utilised all my back garden.

Hi there, I think the cost of allotments varies a great deal depending on where you live in the country. The cost of council allotments in my area of Hertfordshire is in the region of £30-£40 per year for a full size plot of 10 poles. The site my allotment is on has 26 people on the waiting list at the moment. The average wait for a plot is 12-18 months. The city itself has 10 allotment sites with more than 300 people on the waiting list.
If the situation is similar where you are I would suggest you get your name down on the list. If you are not ready when you are offered a plot you can always decline it.

i have a 75ftx25ft allotment [x2] how many poles as i havent a clue

A 10 pole allotment is about 300 square yards.

According to their website, in Edinburgh the council allotments are £70/year for a full plot (10x20m) or £35 for a "half plot" (5x10m) but if you ask me, their half plots are technically 1/4 plots as you can fit 4 in the space of a full plot.

There's at least a minimum of 4 year wait on most of their sites. No idea of how many people are on the list but I've still another 2 years to wait before I even stand a chance of being offered one.
