Default Poor Potatoes???

Hello

Pictures are below. What has gone wrong. I dug these up yesterday and they look awful. I had to peel them, which was not ideal for new pots!

However they were nice to eat, after being peeled and steamed. I ate them with some fresh spinache which I have grown as well.

If anyone knows what is wrong with the pots please let me know!

Regards to all.

Paul

This looks like scab. There are two types, common scab and powdery scab.
With common scab the disease is only skin deep and does not affect the eating qualities. Most severe on light soil under dry conditions. No treatment is available. To try and prevent this dig in compost but do not lime before planting. Make sure you use healthy seed.
Powdery scab much less frequent than above. Worse on heavy soil under wet conditions. No treatment available. Crop rotation will help to prevent disease.
Desiree (maincrop) variety very susceptible. Hope this helps.

Well the good news is I've dug more up and there is no scab at all. The first ones I doug were on the end of the row and may have not got as much water!
