Okay this is a stupid question but all my red hot poker plants have seed heads on them. Do I cut these off or leave them on the plant? There aren't any flower heads left so if I cut the seed heads off will the plant produce more flower heads or is it too late now?

Hi, Cookie, Nick. I cut the haeds off as soon as they've finished flowering. (Tidies them up a bit.) Then I trim the leaves by about 1/3rd and dig out the shoots to propogate them and replant them. I've just done that this week.

Hi Cookie
I never cut the seed heads off my pokers I just leave them for the birds and let them die down naturally. They just come back year after year and keep the slugs occupied so they leave the other more vulnerable plants alone. ![]() Amanda. |
